St. Patricks GAA Summer Camp                                                                              St. Patricks Annual GAA Summer CÚL Camp was the most successful to date with 138 players in attendance. We thank club chairperson Julie Ann Gahan and Treasurer Micheál Broderick for the work they put in to make this year’s camp such a success. Thanks to all parents who helped out and a special word of thanks to the Mullinahone club who made their pitch and premises available to us in our time of need.

Under 14 Hurling

On Thursday evening last in Anner Park Cloneen our under 14 hurlers played their first game of the 2018 championship against Fethard. Our boys recovered from a bad start and led for much of the game until Fethard secured a draw with a late goal to leave the score 3-5 each. The team was: Charlie Noonan, Brian O’Halloran, Pat Moroney, Conor Brett, Eoin Fitzgerald, Bill Cuddihy, Robbie Noonan, Evan White, James Ryan, Danny Broderick, Jack Cleere, James Hogan, Willie Cleere, Kyle Colville, Daithi Hogan.

Under 16 Hurling

On Saturday week last our under 16 hurlers took part in the Brendan Teehan Under 16 Hurling Tournament in Gortnahoe. Despite fielding without several regular players our boys put on two fine performances against Gortnahoe-Glengoole and Borrisileigh.

Unfortunately, things did not go our way and we suffered two defeats. We thank Gortnahoe-Glengoole for inviting us to take part and for the hospitality they showed us on the day.

Bereavement

We extend the sympathy of St. Patricks GAA Club to the Clancy Family on the death of Lolo Clancy RIP of Clonmelan in Co. Westmeath and formerly Magoury Drangan.

Lolo was a very prominent footballer in his younger days winning South Tipperary and Co. Tipperary Junior and Senior titles in 1953 with the Drangan Juniors and the Senior team St. Patricks.

After the glory days of 1953 many of Lolos colleagues emigrated and played their football and hurling on foreign fields while Lolo and his colleagues kept the home flag flying and contested semi finals and finals in both hurling and football up to the late 1950s.

Lolo continued his involvement in the GAA in his adopted club Clonmellan Co. Westmeath where he served as club chairman and saw his son Pat line out for the Westmeath Senior Hurlers.
