Bereavement

We extend the sympathy of St. Patricks GAA Club to the Keane Family of Cappagh Cloneen on the recent death of Mrs. Peg Keane Cappagh Cloneen. The Keanes have been in involved in the GAA for over a hundred years and Pegs late husband Teddy was a great community worker in days gone by. Despite being prominent in mens GAA circles over a long number of years it was the ladies who made the biggest headlines when Josie and Catherine were members of the Tipperary team who won the first ever Ladies Football All-Ireland in 1974 and retained the title in 1975 when Josie was also named Ladies Football Sports Star of 1975. The late Teddy Keane was trainer & selector with these teams and much of the credit for their success must go to Teddy.
In his day Teddy had been a formidable club and Co. Footballer who won a Co. Senior championship with his brother Tom in 1953. Tom and brother Seán already held Co. medals since 1947. In the next generation Peg’s son John was a Co. Minor, Junior and Senior Footballer and won an All-Ireland Agricultural Colleges Hurling final with Kildalton in 1977. At club level John won Junior championships in 1985 and 1991, a Senior Championship in 1990 and Intermediate in 1995 when Philly was also a member. In 1991 Philly and Noel were also Junior medal winners. In 1989 Noel, Philly and Declan all won South Tipperary minor football medals with St. Patricks. Patrick, Paul, Andy and Rory were also prominent members of several St. Patricks teams with Rory winning a Munster Schools football medal with Fethard PBS in 1982. While most of the Keane family made their mark on the GAA fields it was on the Tennis Court at Hillview in Clonmel that Theresa made her mark winning several trophies and competitions over a long career which still continues.
Behind all of these success stories was the lady who guided them all Peg Keane RIP.

Cathy has been looking after the Loughmore-Castleiney players for over a quarter of a century but still finds time to look after the aches and pains of the players from her native St. Patricks.
