South Tipperary Under 21 B Football Championship

Ballyporeen 1-13               St. Patricks 1-3

On Saturday last in Clonmel  Sportsfield Ballyporeen got the year off to a good start with a big win over their old rivals St. Patricks. Both sides were guilty of some wayward kicking before St. Patricks Tony O Brien forced the scoreboard keeper off his seat after 10 minutes with a point from a 45. Michael William Hickey replied for Ballyporeen with a similar score. Within two minutes along ball into the St. Patricks defence was dropped and Thomas Martin was on hand to shoot the loose ball to the net. The Bally boys attacked again and St. Patricks defended well and forced Ballyporeen to shoot wide. Larry Brophy shot a good point from the right wing and Glen Walsh shot another for Ballyporeen. Ballyporeen had two wides before St. Patricks goalkeeper Marcus O Halloran was on the alert to deflect over the bar when a goal for Ballyporeen seemed certain. St. Patricks had wides either side of a point for Ballyporeen by Larry Brophy. The half ended with another Ballyporeen wide to leave the half time score 1-5 to 0-1 in favour of the Ballyporeen men.
The first score of the second half was a point from a free by Eoghan Mccormack for St. Patricks. Conor Sweeney pointed for Ballyporeen who were back up the field again but St. Patricks were saved by the woodwork. St. Patricks attacked again and the ball came back off the post to John Moroney who shot to the net. Thomas Martin shot a point for Ballyporeen after a good movement involving several players. This was followed by a Conor Sweeney point who passed to Thomas Martin for another point within two minutes.  St. Patricks had two wides followed by a Shane O Farrell point for Ballyporeen. Danny Barrett shot a point for Ballyporeen and Eoghan McCormack was on the end of a St. Patricks movement which yielded their third & final point of the afternoon. St. Patricks shot wide and Shane O Farrell pointed for Ballyporeen which was followed by a pointed free for Ballyporeen. The final score was pointed free by Kenneth England for Ballyporeen to leave the final score 1-13 to 1-3 in favour of Ballyporeen.
