St. Patricks U21 hurlers advance

St. Patricks 2 -08    Fethard 0 – 10

St. Patricks U21 hurlers advanced to the South U21 B semi final last Wednesday evening by defeating Fethard in Monroe.

Our lads missed a number of opportunities in the early minutes. This allowed Fethard to push on and go 4 up after 20 minutes. Eventually the Drangan/Cloneen lads found the range and went in 2 down at half time.

The first few minutes of the second half was nip and tuck with both sides having difficulty accumulating scores. St. Pats clawed back the two scores and pushed one ahead, even at this stage the game was still tightly balanced. Whoever was to get the goal was always going to be the key to victory.  Thankfully it came to St. Pats through a penalty won by Tommy Hayes and converted by Tony O’Brien. This triggered a purple patch for St. Pats and the second goal came soon after, a solo effort by Tony O’Brien which put our lads six up. Fethard battled well after that and brought it back to four but that was as close as they got as time ran out.

A good victory for the St. Pats hurlers even if they didn’t perform to their best.
