U14B Hurling County Semi Final

Posted in Hurling on September 23, 2010 by poohbear001

On Saturday last St Pats went down to a very good Gortnahoe side in the County U14 B semi-final in New Inn.

This was a step up in opposition from previous games in the South and the more physically dominant Gortnahoe held a few more aces than our boys.

As was the case in the South final the previous Saturday, climatic conditions did not suit very skilful hurling with heavy showers falling throughout.

After the opening exchanges saw the sides swap points, Aidan Buckley being on target for St Pats, Gortnahoe took control with three quick fire goals put them in a commanding position from which we never fully recovered.

But credit must be given to our lads who fought back bravely to register two goals before half time from the prolific Cameron Moynihan.

St. Pats contest final score in Junior A semi

Posted in Hurling on September 21, 2010 by Imreoir

When the final whistle was blown in Cahir last Saturday evening, the score board indicated that Kilsheelin had won the South Junior A Hurling semi final by a point. But there was confusion in the crowd and among the St. Patrick’s mentors and players as some had the score being St. Pats winning by a point and not losing the game. With out going into the exact series of events it has now transpired that the South Board and referee has addressed the issue and there will be a replay, the date of which has yet to be decided. This is news to date at least, any further updates will be posted up!! Continue reading

Does the 26th title bring the Munster championship into question?

Posted in Hurling on September 17, 2010 by Imreoir

For all Tipperary people their 26th senior hurling title will always be one that will live in memory for a number of reasons. The primary reason being the way Tipp hurled in the final, they really stepped up to the plate in every sense. Every thing that was asked of them, they answered with an eagerness which was enriching. To beat Kilkenny, touted as being the best hurling team ever, added further to Tipp’s victory. Continue reading

All roads lead to Cahir for Junior Semis

Posted in Hurling on September 17, 2010 by Imreoir

Cahir plays host to this years South Junior A semi finals this Saturday, kicking off with Newcastle Vs Ballylooby at 4:00pm and St. Pats Vs Kilsheelin at 5:30pm. It should be an interesting evenings hurling.

Kilsheelin defeated our lads in the last game of the group stages so there should be very little between the teams on this occasion. St. Pats are coming into the game with some injuries and also have lost individuals due to emigration. The recession is taking its toll in all walks of life unfortunately. But in saying that St.Pats players and management are looking forward to the game, its a championship which they would dearly love to win!

See ye all there on Saturday!

St. Patricks 2-9 Moyle Rovers 2-11

St. Pats were defeated in last Saturdays Junior B South final in an entertaining game. It didn’t start well for our lads as they were down 1-2 to no score after 10 minutes. They eventually settled into the game and got some scores on the board through good free taking by Noel Brett. The game went through a lull early in the second half with neither team taking the initiative. Eventually St. Pats got the goal which brought them back into it with 10 mins to go. They followed it with a second by Tom O’Connor which brought them within two points of Moyle Rovers. Unfortunately time ran out and for our lads and we went down by 2 points.

On Saturday last St Pats claimed the U14 B South Tipperary County championship with a two point win over their old rivals Kilsheelan in a thrilling final played on a damp day in Grangemockler.St Pats dominated the opening exchanges but clear cut scoring chances were as scarce as hens teeth. Conditions did not favour fluent hurling or a good first touch. Both defences were on top in the opening first ten minutes, first blood went to Kilsheelan with a goal around the midway point of the first half. Our first reward was a pointed free from Cathal Mahoney this was followed a short time later by a goal from Aidan Buckley after a quickly taken free by Cathal Mahoney. Kilsheelan squared the match with a pointed free just before halftime. Continue reading

Junior Bs make it into South Final

Posted in Hurling on September 3, 2010 by Imreoir

The Junior Bs gained a hard fought victory by the narrowest of margins on Wednesday evening last in Fethard against Cahir to put them into the South final.  St Pats started well and put up the first few scores but Cahir got a soft goal half way through the first half which put the sides level. Cahir put on a lot of pressure in the second half and only for a great display from Declan Ryan in the Pats goal, Cahir would have been well ahead. As the game wore on the Cahir misses gave our lads hope and we went on to finish strongly with 2 good points from Noel Brett. It was a really hard fought victory on a lovely evening in Fethard. We now meet a very strong Moyle Rovers side in the final. Moyle Rovers gave our lads a good beating in the group stages and will be very difficult opponents.

Team; D.Ryan, C.Dunne, J.OBrien, W.Power, K.ONeill, A.Barry, R.Maher, T.OConnor(Capt), D.Molloy, S.Broderick, A.Cronin, D.Barry, N.Brett, C.Foley, E.Needham, M.OHalloran, M.Fitzgerald
