South Junior A and B semis

St. Pats played both A and B hurling South Semi finals yesterday in Monroe against Newcastle and Carrick Davins respectively.

St. Pats 2-13       Newcastle 1-13

Pats started well against a strong wind, with Tony O’Brien pointing a number of good frees. Newcastle got the scores from play early on and both sides were level at 3 points a piece. Paul Horan scored the first goal for Pats and this gave them a two point lead. Newcastle came back well and went in level at half time.

Pats had the wind in the second half and Shane Gorey scored a fine goal after about ten minutes. Not long after Tony O’Brien was sent off for Pats. As is often teh case, the team with 14 rallied and hurled well, with Nicky Kearney and Shane Goery picking up points. Liam Brett came to center back and hurled well. Newcastle eventually got the goal they were looking for but hadn’t time on their hands to get back level. Pats finished up winning by 3 on a blustery afternoon in Monroe.
