JHC A
St. Patricks 2-16 Newcastle 0-8
Last Friday evening our A hurlers got a victory over Newcastle in the South Junior A hurling championship. It turned out a nice evening in Ned Hall park even though there was a strong breeze, blowing down the hill.
St. Pats won the toss and played with the breeze in the first half. Scores didn’t come that quickly and the game was pedestrian enough for the opening 15 mins. Pats gradually opened the gap and were 5 points up after 20mins. Pats backs weren’t under much pressure but the forwards struggled to take full advantage of the wind. Newcastle battled well and went in 0-9 to 0-3 down at half time.
Thankfully from Drangan/Cloneen perspective they upped the pace in the second half and produced some good patches of hurling. S Gorey moved good ball at midfield and D Barry and P Horan hurled strongly in the half back line. C Barry came into it at center forward and A Cronin came to the fore with two fine goals after been moved into corner forward. All in all an improved display and it finished 2-16 to 0-8 in favor of Pats.
