We extend the sympathy of St. Patricks GAA Club to Mike and Tom Power on the death of their father Paddy Power. For over half a century Paddy has served his local club as a player and administrator. In his minor days Paddy played football with Mullinahone and was a member of the panel that won the South Tipperary final and were defeated in the Co. Final of 1956. In the same year Paddy was the goalkeeper on the Killenaule minor hurling team defeated by Carrick Swans in the South Tipperary Final. Paddy was a selector when St. Patricks and Mullinahone under the banner of Slievenamon won South and Co. Minor football Championships in 1970 and also won the South Under 21 Football title. Following this Paddy served as a Co. Minor Football Selector. Paddy served St. Patricks as a selector on several Juvenile and adult teams and also represented both St. Patricks and South Tipperary on the Co. Board. When the history of the GAA in Drangan and Cloneen was being compiled Paddy’s memory for detail proved invaluable. Following in Paddys footsteps Paddys son Tom also kept goal for St, Patricks under age teams and the next generation has now arrived on the scene with Mikes children donning the Black and Amber Jerseys. Paddys brother Michael won 3 south finals with St. Patricks in 1963. Over the years Paddy was well known for writing poetry and songs commemorating great events in the GAA and locally. When Tipperary Co. Board published the ballads of Tipperary GAA in 2000 seven of Paddys works were included. When Paddys funeral cortege arrived in Drangan with his coffin draped in his native Black & Amber on Friday 23rd March it was met and escorted into the village by a guard of honour of over 60 players and former players led by South Board Chairman Hugo Browne and John Duggan a minor colleague of Paddys from both minor football and hurling teams of 1956.
