Club Notes 18/10/21

Junior B Football & Hurling
Last weekend was a busy one for our Junior B’s with both the hurlers and footballers in action.

First up were the footballers who took on Fethard in Mullinahone last Saturday. It was the first time in 12 years that we were able to field a 2nd football team and the lads did themselves proud with the performance they put in and had the chances to win it. The game ended in a draw, 7 points each. We have 1 more game left to play against Kilsheelan where a win would put us in the Semi Final. The team on the day was: Keith Browne, Conor Gorey, Cathal Foley, Kieran Clancy, Sean Ryan, Shane Gorey, Jamie Moloney, Richie Needham, Cameron Moynihan, Jamie Brett, Tony O Brien, Mikey O Brien, Keelan O Neil, Luke Fox, Tommy O Brien, Aaron Croinin, Dale Murphy, Willie O Brien.

Next up were our Junior B Hurlers who played neighbours Mullinahone last Sunday morning in Killenaule. This was the final group game and the winner would go through to the Semi Final. We started off well and a goal from Darren Boland in the first half helped us to a 1-11 to 0-2 point lead. We managed to extend our lead in the second half and ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-21 to 1-07. We now wait for the other group to finish to find out who we will be playing in the Semi Final. The team on the day was: Patrick Moroney, Sean Ryan, Damien Barry, Kieran Clancy, Jamie Moloney, Colm Dunne, Jason Hayes, Shane Gorey, Jamie Brett, Matt McCormack, Richie Needham, Cameron Moynihan, Mikey O Brien, Aaron Croinin, Darren Boland, Mark Lynch, Keelan O Neill, Luke Fox, Declan Morrissey.

Bereavement

The death took place recently at the age of 96 of Tommy Horan Knocura. We extend sympathy to his wife Ita, Daughters Helena, Margaret, Ita and Claudia and sons Tom, Michael, John, Pat, Eddie and Bisop Paul. Tommy was a well known figure in the cattle business as far away as Kerry and Offally and his son Pat continues in this business. Tommy took a keen interest in current affairs and wworld geography. In his younger days Tommy lined out with St. Patricks hurling and football teams.
With Ita being a Carrick Swan supporter both Tommy and Ita were regular attenders at Swan matches. They were of course regular attenders at St. Patricks matches where their children and grandchildren were regular members of St. Patricks teams. In more recent years they travelled to Mullinahone and Grangemockler matches to support their Grandchildren. Cathal was a Co. Minor hurler, Paul and Sean were Co. Minor Footballers. Seán and Jill had the distinction of both playing All-Ireland Finals on the same day in Croke Park when Jill lined out with the Co. Tipperary Senior Camogie team and Seán with the Co. Under 21 hurlers. Jill had a long and successful career with the Co. Tipperary Senior camogie team and was a regular analyst on the Sunday Game on RTE Television. In recent years the MacFaddens have been prominent members of successful Grangemockler teams. May the soul of Tommy Horan rest in peace.
