Club Notes 4/11/19

Under 21 Hurling Our U21 Hurlers were in first round action last Monday when they took on Ballybacon/Newcastle in Monroe. With a young team out on the field we fought well but came up short in the end on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-7. The team on the day was: Conor Duggan, Sean Ryan, Barry O Dwyer, Pauric O Brien, Michael Boland, Eoin Ryan, Harry Butler, Cathal O Mahoney, Conor Harrington, Stephen Crotty, Ross McCormack, James Fitzgerald, Matt McCormack, Jamie Broderick, Tommy O Brien, Mikey O Brien, Ben Hennessy.

London Senior Hurling Championship Hard luck to Paul Horan who was a member of the St Gabriel’s team who were beaten by a point after extra time in the London Senior Hurling Final.

Under 8 Football Tournament
On Monday week last October 28 four teams played for the Tom Keane Cup in Anner Park Cloneen.
In the semi finals St. Patricks defeated Mullinahone and Fethard defeated Grangemockler. The Shield final was then played with Mullinahone defeating Grangemockler. Mullinahone captain Dylan Quirke was presented with the Paddy Gleeson Shield by Jimmy Gleeson a brother of the late Paddy RIP. Jimmy is a former secretary and treasurer of St. Patricks club and Paddy was a St. Patricks, Tipperary and Munster footballer.
Fethard and St. Patricks contested the final for the Tom Keane cup and St. Paticks were victorious and captain Billy Purcell was presented with the Tom Keane Cup by Chas Keane a son of the late Tom who was a former St. Patricks, Tipperary and Munster Footballer who won a Railway Cup Interprovincial football medal with Munster in 1949 when Munster defeated Connacht in the semi final and Leinster in the final replay.
Othe members of the victorious St. Patricks team were Mason Moynihan, Mark Carroll, Jack Ryan, Robbie O’ Brien, Rory O’Brien, Mikey O’ Brien, Paddy O’Brien, Michael Kenny-Casey, Rhys Davies, Joshua Lawrence, Eoin Keating, Evan Lawless, Liam O’Halloran, Ryan O’Neill, Daniel Lee, Jack Slattery. Bobby Clancy was unable to play on the day but is a regular member of this team. The selctors for the St. Patricks team were: Edward O’Brien, Mike O’Brien and John O’Brien who are all first cousins.
We thank the Keane and Gleeson families for their generosity. The games were refereed by prominent referee Philly Keane a former St. Patricks player and nephew of the late Tom Keane.

Under 6 Football And Hurling
Training for Under 6 football will commence at 7.00 on this Wednesday April 24 in Drangan field and Under 6 Hurling training will commence on this Saturday April 27 in Anner Park Cloneen at 10.00.

Under 16 Football
On Monday week last our under 16 footballers defeated Clonmel Óg by 2-6 to 0-7 in Ned Hall Park Clonmel. The team was: Brian O’Halloran, Eoin Fitzgerald, Bill Cuddihy, Danny Broderick, Evan White, Cian Crannitch, Robbie Noonan, Aidan Fitzgerald, James Ryan, Jamie Brett, Ryan Crannitch, Cathal Foley, Willie Cleere, Luke Fox, Daithi Hogan, Kyle Colville, Evan Lawson, Pat Moroney.

Under 12 B Football
On Thursday last our under 12 B footballers defeated Ballyporeen by 5-10 to 3-4 in Ballyporeen. The team was: Cormac Duggan, Mike O’Dwyer, Tom Ryan, Michael Cuddihy, Oran Gahan, Charlie Noonan, Seán Fitzgerald, Tom Lee, Eoin Morrissey, Michael Cuddihy, Joey Fitzgerald, Michael Hayden, Dane Outram, Nathan Gleeson.

Under 14 Football
On Tuesday week last our under 14 footballers defeated Ballingarry by 4-4 to 2-2 in Ballingarry. The team was: Cormac Duggan, Joey Fitzgerald, Evan Holohan, Conor Brett, Joe Traynor, Danny Broderick, Seán Nash, Pat Moroney, Robbie Noonan, Oran Gahan, Daithi Hogan, Dylan Meagher, John Carroll, Keelan Strappe, William Noonan, Micheál O’Brien, Charlie Noonan, Seán Fitzgerald, Tom Ryan.

South Junior Hurling Championship
Our Junior hurlers got their Championship underway last Saturday when they played Carrick Swan in Monroe. After a slow start we came into the game and a goal from Robbie Meagher put us into a lead which we held to half time when we led 1-9 to 9. The second half was a tight affair with both teams trading points. A second goal from Conor Duggan seemed to put us in firm control of the game however Swan never gave up and a goal in injury time gave them a 1 point lead which we couldnt get back and they held on for a 1 point win on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-17. The team on the night was: Willie O’Brien, Conor Gorey, Eoin Ryan, Paddy Moroney, Ciaran Mockler, Mark Mullally, Nicky Kearney, Joey Noonan, Richie Needham, Robbie Meagher, Tony O’Brien, Marcus O’Halloran, Shane Gorey, Aidan Buckley, Conor Duggan, Jamie Broderick, Brian McCormack, James Fitzgerald, Mikey O’Brien, Darren Boland,

GAA Membership Fees

We remind all GAA members that membership fees are now due and must be paid before March 31 2019. Of course, players must pay before they play or train. Membership Fees are Adults €50 and under 18s, Students and Senior Citizens €35.

Juvenile GAA Annual Fun Run/Walk
The Annual St. Patricks Juvenile GAA Walk/Run will be held on St. Patricks Day Sunday 17th March commencing at 12.00 from Drangan Community Hall and finishing at The GAA Club Rooms at Anner Park Cloneen. Entry Fee is €10 per person or €20 per family.

Under 12B Football
On Sunday last our under 12B footballers got their year off to a good start with a 3-2 to 0-5 victory over Clerihan in Clerihan. The team was: Cormac Duggan, Cathal Keane, Mike O’Dwyer, Oran Gahan, Charlie Noonan, Eoin Morrissey, Seán Fitzgerald, Michael Hayden, Michael Cuddihy, Joey Fitzgerald, Nathan Gleeson, Dane Outram, Tom Lee, Tom Ryan.
Minor Football Championship
Due to the bad weather our game against Carrick Swans last Sunday was postponed.

Co. Hurling League
Our Junior Hurlers played their first game of the year on Sunday last. Rockwell Rovers were the opposition in the first round of the County Hurling League in New Inn. The game was played in wintery conditions and at one stage in the second half it looked like the game might have to be abandoned as a result of the conditions. We went in at half time only 3 points down despite playing against the wind. In the second half at one stage we went 8 points behind but managed to pull it back to the minimum near the end but unfortunately that was as close as it got and we ended up losing on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-11. The team on the day was: Willie O’Brien, Conor Corey, Eoin Ryan, Paddy Moroney, Ciaran Mockler, Richie Needham, Nicky Kearney, Joey Noonan, Conor Duggan, Robbie Meagher, Tony O’Brien, Mark Mullally, James Fitzgerald, Brian McCormack, Jamie Broderick, Barry O’Dwyer, Michael Boland, Cathal Mahoney, Sean Ryan, Mikey O’Brien.

GAA Gaeltacht Scholarships 2019                                                        The following will be the procedure for obtaining a Gaeltacht Scholarship from Coiste Chontae Thiobraid Árann in 2019;

  1. The scholarships are confined to 2nd Year, TY and 5th Year Students in 2019 and previous recipients of Tipperary GAA Gaeltacht scholarships cannot apply in 2019.  
  2. Students wishing to secure a scholarship from Tipperary GAA should complete the application form which is available from your local club secretary and submit it through their own local GAA Club, Ladies Football Club or Camogie Club.
  3. The secretary of the Club must sign the form and attach a reference letter supporting the applicant’s application before returning it to the Co Rúnaí. Please note the club recommending the successful applicant will be contributing €75 to the scholarship along with the Division, Co Board and Munster Council.

The Closing date for the receipt of Gaeltacht Scholarship Applications is Fri Feb 8th 2019.
