Co. Hurling League
Our Junior Hurlers played their first game of the year on Sunday last. Rockwell Rovers were the opposition in the first round of the County Hurling League in New Inn. The game was played in wintery conditions and at one stage in the second half it looked like the game might have to be abandoned as a result of the conditions. We went in at half time only 3 points down despite playing against the wind. In the second half at one stage we went 8 points behind but managed to pull it back to the minimum near the end but unfortunately that was as close as it got and we ended up losing on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-11. The team on the day was: Willie O’Brien, Conor Corey, Eoin Ryan, Paddy Moroney, Ciaran Mockler, Richie Needham, Nicky Kearney, Joey Noonan, Conor Duggan, Robbie Meagher, Tony O’Brien, Mark Mullally, James Fitzgerald, Brian McCormack, Jamie Broderick, Barry O’Dwyer, Michael Boland, Cathal Mahoney, Sean Ryan, Mikey O’Brien.

Our minor footballers suffered a defeat at the hands of Ballyporeen in the first round of the South Tipperary Minor A Football Championship played in Cahir on Sunday last in atrocious weather conditions. The team was: Tyler McCormack, Jack O’Donoghue, Keith Morrissey, Darragh Hall, Richie Anglim, Cathal O’Mahoney, Pauric O’Brien, Darragh Hurley, Peter Wall, Robbie Hackett, Ciaran Moroney, Ryan Walsh, Mikey O’Brien, Stephen Crotty, Aidan Fitzgerald, Cathal Foley, Ryan Crannitch, Keenan Ahearne. Junior Hurling Championship

Our Junior Hurlers played Ballingarry in their final group game last Saturday evening in Killenaule. This was a must win game for both teams as the winner would go straight through to the Semi Final. The first half was a cagey affair and although we went into a 6 point lead at 1 stage, Ballingarry came back into the game at the end of the half to leave the half time score 8 points to 5 to us at half time. The second half was score for score and although Ballingarry got a goal near the end it wasn’t enough for them as we won on a scoreline of 0-16 to 1-9. We now go through to the semi-final which will be played in the first week or two of September. Bereavements

We extend the sympathy of St. Patricks GAA Club to the Fitzgerald Family of The Thatch Cloneen on the recent untimely death of Noel RIP. Noel first came to notice as centre forward on the St. Patricks Under 14 football team that reached the South Final of 1972. This was in the days before A, B or C when all teams were in the same competition. Noel continued to line out for St. Patricks teams over the next 12 years. His son Mark is Assistant Secretary of St. Patricks GAA Club and has been involved in organizing Fund-Raising events over the years. James has lined out for various teams over the years and last year was goalkeeper on the Anner Gaels minor hurling team that won the South Final. Niamh has figured on several Ladies Football teams over the years. Noels coffin was draped in the Black and Amber of St. Patricks as a Guard of Honour of past and present players escorted his remains from the Thatch to the Church of the Nativity in Cloneen. May Noel rest in Peace.
