South U21B Hurling Champions
The first adult title of the year for the club arrived last weekend, a south U21B hurling. Its late in the year but very welcome from the clubs perspective. St. Pats Gaels(including one Ballyneale man) came through with 7 points to spare over Ballybacon-Grange.
The Drangan/Cloneen lads hurled with a strong breeze in the first half and went in 4 up. Ballybacon brought it back to 2 early in the second half but St. Pats dug in and put in a good battling performance from there on. Some very good free taking from Tony O’Brien into a strong wind pushed the result in St.Pats favor coming into the last 10. Also points from play from Stuart Broderick and one from the sideline from Shane Goery selaed a good and deserved victory.
All in all, everybody hurled well, but most impressive were the Hayes brothers(Tommy and Jason) and Richie Needham in defence, Shane Gorey and Paul Horan in midfield and Tony O’Brien up front.
St. Pats now await the West Champions(Aherlow and Golden to play in West Final). The other side of the draw sees Mid champions JK Brackens face North champions Shannon Rovers.
A full match report will be posted later.
